  • 1.  Survey scale of social energy / fun / quality interactions / social flow?

    Posted 11-24-2021 12:43
    Hello,

I am looking for a survey scale capturing "social energy" in some sense. Here are some ways the concept is described:

    • The magic that happens when people interact. Atmosphere. The vibe.
    • Being on the same wavelength as the team
    • Connection
    • Belonging
    • Build on top of each others reasoning. Back and forth. 1+1=3!
    • Feeling appreciated and valued
    • Being able to leverage each others knowledge and skills
    • Brainstorming
    • Bouncing ideas off each other
Do you have a suggestion for me what already existing, validated scales we could use?

    Big thanks in advance!

    Hi Gisela,

Jef van den Hout and I developed the Team Flow Monitor for measuring some of these items: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/23311908.2019.1643962

Happy to discuss in detail if it's helpful.

    Huzzah!

    Hello Gisela,

In addition to measures of identity (Blader & Tyler, 2009, JAP) and diversity & inclusion (e.g., Chung et al., 2020, GOM) which may tap into what you're looking for, you may also want to consider taking a look at these three articles (which have over 20 different measures related to teams and their interactions):

Campion, M.A., Medsker, G.J., & Higgs, A.C. (1993).  Relations between work group characteristics and effectiveness: A replication and extension. Personnel Psychology, 49,
    429-452.

Ohland, M.W., et al. (2012). The comprehensive assessment of team member effectiveness: Development of a behaviorally anchored rating scale for self- and peer evaluation.
Academy of Management Learning & Education, 11, 609-630.

Griffin, M.A., Neal, A., & Parker, S.K. (2007). A new model of work role performance: Positive behavior in uncertain and interdependent contexts. Academy of Management Journal, 50, 327-347.

If you find something else, please let the group know. Otherwise, good luck with your research!

    Cheers,

    Jeremy
