Academy of Management - Professional Development Workshop

Careers in the Rough - Call for Manuscripts

The Careers Division of the Academy of Management is proud to offer junior and more experienced scholars the opportunity to get feedback on their career-related manuscripts from leading senior careers scholars in the "Careers in the Rough" professional development workshop (PDW). Just like last year, this year's PDW will be held in a virtual, asynchronous format.

The aim of this workshop is to give career scholars the opportunity to receive feedback on their near final-form manuscript from eminent scholars in the Careers Division. Manuscripts should address a career-related topic, including career outcomes (e.g., success), career management, job mobility, employability, career shocks, work-family issues, the dark side of careers, race, culture, and gender effects on careers, labor force diversity, and careers in a virtual world, among others. After manuscript acceptance, mentors will be paired with mentees based largely on the fit between the papers and the scholars' interests/areas of expertise. We strive for groups of two mentors and two mentees: both mentors will give feedback on each manuscript, and we ask each mentee to read the other's manuscript. The groups of four are asked to schedule a virtual meeting of around two hours in which both papers are discussed (around one hour per manuscript). The virtual feedback moment can be late July, August, or September.

We are very grateful to this year's mentors for their commitment to this virtual workshop. Our mentors include: Jos Akkermans (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), Gina Dokko (University of California, Davis), Peter Heslin (UNSW, Australia), Yehuda Baruch (Southampton Business School, U.K), Kimberly Eddleston (Northeastern University), Sherry Sullivan (Bowling Green State University), Maury Peiperl (George Mason University School of Business), Wolfgang Mayrhofer (WU Vienna), Gayle Baugh (University of West Florida), Nicky Dries (KU Leuven), Michael Arthur (Suffolk University, Boston), Andreas Hirschi (University of Bern), Bert Schreurs (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), Emma Parry (Cranfield University), Danna Greenberg (Babson College), Alexander Newman (Deakin Business School), Mel Fugate (Mississippi State University), Joanne Duberley (University of Birmingham), Jelena Zikic (York University), Ans De Vos (Antwerp Management School), Julia Richardson (Curtin University), and Shoshana Dobrow (London School of Economics)!
