Several of the courses across our school, which have shifted to an online-only format, revolve around team-based projects. I created a short video (available on YouTube) to help students that are transitioning to a virtual mode of collaboration:

I also am directing students to these HBR articles:

Adding a response to a question I received via email so that the community can see the response in the Discussion threads:

Here's how I made the video:
    1. Record the video using QuickTime, which is free, and a webcam. Alternatively, you can use your cellphone to record the video.
    2. I have a green sheet that is behind me and am lighting it with a cheap ring light. This allows removing the background from the video.
    3. For audio, I'm just using a cheap clip-on lav mic that I bought on Amazon.
    4. Edit the video using Camtasia. I have an old version (Camtasia 3) that I picked up when there was a 59.00 deal on it. Camtasia enables adding effects (e.g., getting rid of the background), inserting annotations (e.g., the text in the video), and much more (e.g., screencasting) in a multi-track framework.

    Hope this helps!
    Andrew

The following article provides practical strategies for communication in virtual teams that student teams should find helpful.
