    Dear colleagues,

    Hope you are doing well.

May i share a new book on "Emotion and Proactivity at Work", edited by Kelly Z. Peng and Chia-huei Wu, with a foreword by Sharon Parker.
The book is published by Bristol University Press in April, 2021 and is open access via OAPEN

    About the book:

In today's global economy, organizations face complex environments that require rapid responses to changing external environments. To succeed within these increasingly uncertain operating environments, in addition to adapting to changes, employees can proactively respond to challenges to improve the work environment or themselves. However, not all employees are willing or able to take the initiative at work. Why are some employees more proactive than others? What makes some people more likely to initiate positive change within their organizations?

Individuals' behaviours at work are known to be shaped by cold, or cognitive-motivational, processes as well as hot, or affect-motivational, processes. To date, employee proactivity research has mainly focused on the 'cold' or 'cognitive'  side. In this book, expert scholars offer new thinking on the "hot" process by examining how emotion can drive employees' proactivity in the workplace and how, in turn, that proactivity can shape one's emotional experiences. This edited book is aimed to disseminate new thinking in synergistic interaction of emotion and proactivity to advance the understanding of the emotional process of proactivity and forward- looking future research revenues.

The book is organized into three parts: In Part I, contributors discuss and review why and how should we study proactivity from an emotion lens, offering a foundation for the basic research motive in the topic of emotion and proactivity. In Part II, contributors address issues such as how emotional experiences can shape employees' proactivity at different levels (events, daily, or team), how different emotions can influence employees' proactivity (that is, positive affect against negative affect; or the various discrete emotions, like anger, fear, or pride), and how the emotions or emotion expression motivate or inhibit proactivity in an interpersonal context, and how the spillover effects of emotional experiences on proactivity occur across work and non- work domain. Finally, in Part III, the chapters discuss how proactivity can shape employees' emotional experiences and subjective well- being afterwards, a research avenue that has only attracted attention in very recent years.

    Hope you enjoy the book!

    All the best,
    Chiahuei.
