Hi everyone!
As you know, I am the Graduate Coordinator for the Organizational Science Summer Institute (OSSI) and I along with Dr. Jill Yavorsky (OSSI director) are seeking your help to recruit students for this academic year's program!
Below is more information about OSSI. If you could send this along to your professional and personal networks and to any students who you think might qualify, that would be great.
What is OSSI?
OSSI is a virtual (due to the pandemic), week-long research-intensive program that is sponsored by the Organizational Science PhD program at University of North Carolina Charlotte, every summer. The goal is to foster undergraduate interest and ability in research and scholarship and help students to develop a competitive application for graduate school.
OSSI targets underrepresented racial/ethnic minority (e.g., Black/African-American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander) undergraduates who are interested in pursuing graduate school in topics related to work and organizations.
Specifically, our program primarily seeks out students with an interest in organizational communication, management, I/O psychology, and organizational sociology (although we are open to other disciplines that align with an interest in organizational phenomena).
When is OSSI?
May 16-20th, 2021 (Virtual)
When is the application deadline?
All student applications must be submitted online by Jan 31st, 2021! See our website for more info on how to apply and application requirements: https://ossi.uncc.edu/
OSSI Objectives and Activities:
The mission of OSSI is to help diversify the pipeline for graduate education. To reach this mission:
- OSSI students will work with faculty and graduate student mentors to gain hands-on assistance in developing effective graduate school applications
- Participants will:
- Receive free GRE test preparation and resources
- Collaborate with leading scholars and practitioners from various disciplines
- Receive training on topics related to graduate school including:
- How to apply for graduate school (creating personal statements, etc.)
- Learning about life as a graduate student
- Presenting research effectively
Note: Participants will also receive a small monetary stipend.
Please feel free to forward this email to specific students (ideally, juniors and seniors) who are interested in the study of organizations and graduate school and/or send this information to other faculty who may be able to notify specific students.
The attached flyer also provides additional info.
Please let me or Dr. Jill Yavorsky know if you have any questions (orgsciencesummer@uncc.edu). Thank you all for your help with this program. We appreciate it!
Sincerely,
Karoline Summerville, Graduate Coordinator of OSSI
Dr. Jill Yavorsky, Director of OSSI
