Friends and colleagues! We would like to invite you to join us at EGOS 2022 in Vienna and submit to subtheme 12: Institutions, Innovation, and Impact: Dynamics of Exclusion and Organizational Responses.

The current era of social unrest, intensifying inequalities, and political polarization highlight historical and continuing patterns of exclusion across the world. Our subtheme is aimed at providing a deeper understanding of the dynamics of exclusion, and in particular, the role of institutions and organizations in exacerbating and mitigating exclusion. For example, some of the diverse efforts organizations use to address exclusion include, transforming or renegotiating norms to help integrate the marginalized within the mainstream; fostering social and inclusive innovation; mobilizing resources and support for the displaced, and more situated "band-aid solutions" to tackle the immediate symptoms of exclusion.

While the catalogue of diverse efforts is somewhat clear, what is much less clear is how these efforts play out – intentionally and unintentionally – in organizational contexts, to what effect, and under which conditions. Hence, in this subtheme, we wish to explore various themes including, macro-, meso- and micro-level dynamics of exclusion, the role of material objects and practices in fostering and overcoming exclusion. We are also interested in the diverse innovations and strategies through which organizations respond to exclusion and the outcomes of such efforts.

Participants can expect a vibrant and engaging subtheme, featuring diverse organizational and institutional settings, scholarly ideas and levels of analysis.

    Warm regards,

Farah Kodeih, Ebony Bridwell-Mitchell, Tom Lawrence
