    May 15-16, 2020 (doctoral workshop May 14)
Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University
    Montreal, Canada

We invite submissions for Distances in Organizations (DIO), a workshop that will be held at McGill University on May 15-16, 2020. The workshop will cover topics such as construal levels (e.g., measurement and manipulation, conceptualization), cognitive distance and its implications for varied organizational phenomena (e.g., strategy, leadership, performance, justice, teamwork), social distances between employees (e.g., hierarchy, diversity, networks, culture), spatial distances in work teams (e.g., distributed teams, mobile work), and temporal distances in work projects (e.g., goal setting, temporal horizons). The goal of the workshop is to provide a platform for academics and graduate students engaged in research in this area to present their findings, discuss innovative ideas, and share techniques for conducting research in this area. DIO is designed to be a small workshop (about 60 participants) to facilitate discussion and exchange of ideas between attendees. In addition, the workshop aims to encourage networking through meals and social events. The first DIO workshop was held in May 2018 at McGill University in Montréal (more information here), and the second was held in May 2019 at New York University in New York City (more information here).

Submission of work in preliminary form (e.g. data partially or not yet collected) is also encouraged. Different session formats (e.g. paper sessions, roundtables) will promote discussion and exchange of ideas. An anonymized extended abstract (2 to 5 pages double spaced excluding references) should be submitted by email to workshop@dio.ac by March 15, 2020. Early submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis.

    Doctoral Consortium
A doctoral student consortium will take place on Thursday, May 14 in advance of the DIO workshop. The consortium is designed to allow students to work intensively with a few faculty mentors to get feedback on and develop their research ideas. Space is limited - to nominate a student for the doctoral consortium, please send a letter of nomination to: jean-nicolas.reyt@mcgill.ca.
