  • 1.  Literature/Scale on change agent behaviors

    Posted 07-05-2020 11:11

    Dear Colleagues,

I am currently looking at the literature on leadership development and organizational change.

I am looking for a valid and reliable scale that measures change agent behaviors. I searched Ebsco and found articles that talk about the orientation toward change agents and different persuasion techniques used by change agents. Is there something you may have across that focuses specifically on actionable behaviors?

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,
    Sheldon.

    Hi Sheldon,

David Herold et al. (2008) measured change leadership by asking people the extent to which the change agent exhibited the steps in Kotter's change model.

    Change Leadership

Related to the specific change being studied, my leader . . . 1. developed a clear vision for what was going to be achieved by our work unit. 2. made it clear up front to those in our unit why the change was necessary. 3. made a case for the urgency of this change prior to implementation. 4. built a broad coalition up front to support the change. 5. empowered people to implement the change. 6. carefully monitored and communicated progress of the change implementation. 7. gave individual attention to those who had trouble with the change implementation. (p. 357)

    Hope this helps,

    Greetings!

You might try asking this question about change agents in another division list.

A likely candidate would be the Organization Development and Change Division of the Academy that has change work in its domain.

Another good candidate would be the OMT Division that also contains  posts from time to time on change agents.

    Best wishes,

    Julie

    Hi Sheldon,

My colleagues and I have developed a scale on implementation leadership that may be useful to you. It was developed in the context of healthcare and evidence-based practice implementation, but could be adapted to focus on any organizational change. The dimensions are largely behavioral, focusing on the extent to which the leader is proactive in planning for the implementation, is knowledgeable about the new practice, supports employee efforts to use the new practice, and perseveres through the challenges of the implementation process. Here is the link to the article (the measure is included as electronic supplementary material): https://implementationscience.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1748-5908-9-45#Sec19. Here is the reference: Aarons, G. A., Ehrhart, M. G., & Farahnak, L. R. (2014). The implementation leadership scale (ILS): Development of a brief measure of unit level implementation leadership. Best of luck in your research,

    Mark
