Construct clarity is crucial to both theoretical and empirical work and across quantitative and qualitative traditions; precisely defined constructs are, for example, core to the development and testing of an explanatory model as well as to a thick ethnographic description of a phenomenon. Give its centrality, the evident question is how can we clearly define constructs? And how can we be creative in developing new constructs or in fundamentally redefining existing ones? In this practical session, we will outline steps towards clearly defining constructs and through practical exercises involving participants demonstrate how construct clarity can be achieved in their own work.
