    Position Description

    Department Head - Management and Entrepreneurship

    The Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business is seeking a highly experienced and well-qualified individual to head the Management and Entrepreneurship (M&E) Department. The department head leads the twelve full-time faculty and 8 part-time adjuncts in the M&E Department and teaches in graduate and undergraduate programs in the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business (BSB). The successful candidate will have highly rated teaching experience in both traditional and online formats and an active research record publishing in highly respected and recognized academic journals. The M&E Department's Management major and Entrepreneurship minor were launched in 2020 and have continued to experience rapidly growing demand, as has the well-established online MBA program. Departmental course offerings cover the fields of General Management, Organization Behavior, Human Resources Management/Development, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Small Business Management, Business Law, Business Ethics, Management Information Systems, and Strategy. The Citadel's commitment to developing principled leaders is emphasized throughout the curriculum.

We have innovative academic programs and a new business building, Bastin Hall, which opened in Spring 2021. The faculty are members of an established, collegial team dedicated to producing principled leaders in all walks of life.  The Citadel is AACSB-accredited and offers a traditional residential undergraduate program to South Carolina Corps of Cadets members in a military college setting. (Cadets and faculty wear uniforms and share aspects of the military training experience.) In addition, The Citadel offers two non-residential programs for other students: an online undergraduate degree completion program and an online MBA program.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Applicants must have an earned doctorate from an AACSB-accredited or equivalent university with the educational preparation to teach courses in the M&E Department's various disciplines. The candidate will have experience in using online teaching technologies.  All candidates must document and demonstrate highly effective past teaching experience, ongoing research initiatives, and significant appropriate service activities for academic, community, and professional institutions. Candidates should have a record of achievement (publications, teaching, and service) to warrant an appointment at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level at The Citadel.  Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Department Head appointments are for a 5-year term (renewable) consisting of 9 months, and additionally one of the 2 summer sessions (7-weeks).

    Candidates will have administrative experience in academic and program management that includes faculty management, course scheduling, effectively advocating for the interests of their program, and defining department direction informed by the needs of employers and supported by community engagement/impact programming. The successful candidate will have administrative experience demonstrating an ability to coordinate with other departments in the BSB, participate in and lead BSB committees and college level committees, and make collaborative decisions. Candidates will have student advising and degree program management experience and demonstrate an ability to clearly communicate evolving program requirements and work with the college Registrar to help students make progress toward graduation.

    Online teaching experience is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preference will be given to candidates who have taught in several of the following areas:  Management, Organization Behavior, Entrepreneurship, Strategy, Leadership, Business Law, Business Ethics, Management Information Systems, and Small Business. In addition, consulting experience and strong business contacts are preferred.  

    Additional Comments: The Citadel

    The initial screening of applicants will begin on September 30th, 2024, and continue until November 1 or when the position is filled. (Search chair: William H.
