AOM Members: Access to CARMA's Webcast Lectures and AOM-CARMA Video Recording Collection
CARMA (Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods & Analysis) is a non-profit academic center at Texas Tech University now in our 26th year of providing research methods education. We are pleased to offer live online access to our Webcast Lectures free of charge to AOM Student and Academic Members as part of the AOM-CARMA Affiliate Program. We encourage you to mark your calendar for our next Webcast Lecture Series and Research Methods Faculty Network Session on Friday, March 28 as we cover:
· Webcast Lecture: Combining Case Study Designs for Rigorous Research
Dr. Lakshmi Balachandran Nair, LUISS Guido Carli University
Friday, March 28 | 9:00 AM EDT (New York) / 1:00 PM GMT (London)
Abstract: This webcast lecture will discuss various approaches to combining case study research designs. It will begin with a brief introduction to case study research before delving into different archetypal and sequenced case study designs and their key components. Drawing on examples from management and other social science disciplines, the lecture aims to help attendees develop case studies that align with their research goals.
· Webcast Lecture: Linguistic Methods for Management Research
Dr. Nelson Phillips, UC Santa Barbara
Friday, March 28 | Noon EDT (New York) / 4:00 PM GMT (London)
Abstract: Linguistic methods such as discourse analysis, narrative analysis, and rhetorical analysis have made significant contributions to management research. In this webinar, Professor Phillips will discuss the underlying philosophical foundation and unique value of these methods. He will begin by discussing the nature and evolution of language as a uniquely human capacity. He will then explain some of the reasons why linguistic methods are highly useful in management research and discuss some of the commonly used linguistic methods explaining when and where they are useful as well as providing examples of their use.
· Research Methods Faculty Network: A Tutorial on Conducting Computer Simulation for Research and Teaching
Dr. Michael Sturman, Distinguished Professor of HRM at Rutgers University
Friday, March 28 | 1:30 PM EDT (New York) / 5:30 PM GMT (London)
Abstract: This tutorial on computer simulations for research/teaching shows the techniques needed to create data based on desired relationships among variables. Included are techniques to make data more "interesting," including adding skew or kurtosis, creating multi-item measures with unreliability, making data multilevel, and incorporating mediated, moderated, and nonlinear relationships. The methods described in the paper are illustrated using Excel, Mplus, and R; furthermore, the functionality of using ChatGPT to create code in R is explored and compared to the paper's illustrative examples.
